What we collect, why, and who sees it.
Upholsterers United (UU) is a platform that routes upholstery jobs between customers and independent shops. Running that job — pricing it, posting it to shops, letting you track it, reviewing finished work — means collecting some information about you. This page explains what, why, and who it's shared with.
01 · What we collect
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Contact info | Name, email, phone number, business name (for shops) | You, when you submit a job, apply as a shop, or sign up for the trade program |
| Job details | Photos of the piece, dimensions, fabric/material choice, timeline, drop-off location/city | You, at intake |
| Location | City or metro area used to match you to a nearby shop | You, or inferred from the address you provide |
| Payment info | Card or bank details for Full-Service jobs | Collected and stored by our payment processor, not by UU directly — see Section 03 |
| Shop records | License number, insurance certificate, portfolio links, job history, ratings | Shops, at application and ongoing |
| Usage data | Pages visited, device/browser type, approximate location from IP, referral source | Automatically, via cookies and similar tracking — see Section 04 |
| Communications | Messages, texts, or call records between you and UU (and, where relevant, between you and a shop through the platform) | You and the shop, during a job |
02 · How we use it
- Running the marketplace: pricing and posting jobs, matching you to a shop by category/location/capacity, letting you and the shop track a job from submitted to paid.
- The UU's quality review: comparing finished-work photos against the published spec, coordinating revisions with the shop on your behalf, and — on Full-Service jobs — deciding when to release payment.
- Trust & safety: verifying a shop's license and insurance at application, tracking ratings and dispute history to decide who stays in the member network.
- Support: responding when you contact us, and following up on an open job.
- Marketing follow-up: telling you about UU if you requested a quote or started an application but didn't finish, or re-engaging past customers — always with an opt-out. See Section 05 for texts and calls specifically.
- Improving the platform: aggregated, de-identified analysis of job flow, pricing accuracy, and ad performance. We don't sell your personal information.
04 · Advertising & tracking
Like most commercial sites, we use cookies and similar tools (such as conversion-tracking pixels from ad platforms) to see which pages and ads lead to a submitted job, and to avoid re-showing an ad to someone who already converted. This may involve sharing limited, hashed, or device-level identifiers with ad platforms — never your payment details, and never a photo of your project.
You can decline non-essential cookies through your browser settings or a cookie-consent control on this site once one is implemented. Declining may make some pages less relevant to you but won't prevent you from submitting a job.
05 · Texts & calls
By providing your phone number, you may receive texts or calls from UU related to a job you've submitted or a shop application in progress — status updates, a request for a photo or clarification, a reminder that a quote is waiting, or a scheduling confirmation. Message and data rates may apply; frequency varies with how many open jobs or applications you have.
Marketing texts or calls require separate opt-in and are never required to use the platform. Reply STOP to any UU text to opt out of that category, or HELP for help. You can also ask a UU contact directly to remove your number from marketing outreach.
Some of UU's outbound texts and calls may be sent or placed with the help of automated or AI-assisted systems (for example, a routine status update or an appointment reminder). Where a message is automated, we say so; a dispute, a complaint, or anything that isn't routine is routed to a person.
06 · How long we keep it
We keep job records (photos, specs, communications) for as long as needed to resolve warranty claims and disputes, plus a reasonable period for our own records — typically a few years after a job closes, though this will be finalized with counsel before launch. Shop application and compliance records (license, insurance) are kept for as long as a shop is listed, plus a retention period after it's removed. You can ask us to delete contact information that isn't tied to an open job or legal requirement — see Section 07.
07 · Your rights
- Access: ask what personal information we have about you.
- Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate information.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your information, subject to what we need to keep for an open job, a legal obligation, or a dispute record.
- Opt-out: unsubscribe from marketing email or text at any time (Section 05); decline non-essential cookies (Section 04).
Depending on where you live, additional rights may apply (for example, under California's CCPA/CPRA). To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in Section 09 — we don't charge a fee for a reasonable request and will respond within a reasonable time.
08 · Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the information we hold, and we rely on PCI-compliant processors for payment data rather than handling card numbers ourselves. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll follow applicable law in notifying you if a breach affects your information.
09 · Contact
Questions about this policy, or a request to access, correct, or delete your information, can be sent to Upholsterers United via the contact details on the homepage, or to the UU account contact handling your job.
